World Buddhism Culture Festival Held on Mount Wutai

2004/09/01

The traditionally sacred Mount Wutai is hosting the 2004 World Buddhism Culture Festival, which started August 13 and runs for a whole month. Seminars on Buddhist culture, Kiddush and an arts expo have made up the largest part of the activities for this holy festival. Buddhist cultural relics and Buddhist food are also on display at famous temples on the mountain, such as the Xiantong Temple. Disciples and visitors have also had a chance to experience performances by Buddhist music bands from South Korea and China's Shao Lin Temple, and of course from temples on the mountain itself.

Mount Wutai, or "Five Terrace Mountain," is located in North China's Shanxi Province and has been a Buddhist pilgrimage site for many centuries.
