Beijing Administrators Study US Management Methods
2004/08/01
By Winnie Li
Twenty key administrators from the People's Government of
Beijing Municipality recently studied ways to improve their
administrative management skills under the tutelage of experts
from the University of Georgia of the United States.
UG Professors James Stephenson, Golden Harrison, Richard
Clark, Dan Derlin and Robert Barnet, gave lessons on "The Art
of Leadership," "The Management of Emergencies and Crisis,"
"The Analysis of Public Policies," "The Management of Human
Resources" and the "Innovation of Government Systems" from May
31 to June 25.
Since 2004, the government has held five sessions of these
kinds of classes. Those who attend the sessions must score
highly on English tests to qualify to attend.
In recent decades, the role of governmental administrators
in China has evolved from simply administering approvals to
active management and supervision of governmental affairs. The
transition has not been easy, and some civil servants have met
some difficulties in managing properly.
