More Beijingers Taking Overseas Summer Holidays
2004/08/01
Beijingers travelling to overseas destinations have set new
records this summer.
Applications for exit visas soared to 41,000 from June 26 to
July 26, a 40 percent increase if compared with the same period
last year. Nearly 70 percent of tourists from the Chinese
capital have chosen to visit Hong Kong and Macao.
Officials attribute the increase to lower prices, including
the introduction of promotional tour packages offered by the
two cities. Visa authorities have extended working hours to
meet the growing demand.
