Re-experience the Long March
2004/08/01
In the later half of this year, the country will formally
launch a "red tourism" project on the occasion of the 70th
anniversary of the Red Army's Long March, according to a report
issued at the National Tourism Work Forum held in Urumqi.
He Guangwei, head of the China National Tourism
Administration (CNTA), said CNTA has made suggestions on
developing red tourism that include stressing the construction
of a "red tourism" core system. The system would feature 10
"tourism bases," 20 "red tourism cities" and 100 "red tourism
classic scenic spots."
The promotion aims to help people in old revolutionary base
areas overcome poverty and improve their incomes. Such a
programme is needed to promote tourism in middle and western
parts of the country and to strengthen the country's tourism
industry.
