Cool Sports, Cool Summer

2004/06/01
By Hellen Zhou

Nanshan established itself as the best snow skiing resort in Beijing, so its summer entertainment also aims for second to none. Nanshan provides six entertaining projects (Summers Toboggan Run, Cable Hang-gliding, Grass Ski, Grass Ski Cart, New Zealand Zorb and All Terrain Vehicle or ATV), two children sports (Sky Diver and Inflatable Climbing) and three adult exercises (Football, Camping and Hiking).

The 260-yuan series ticket includes all the necessary fees for the six entertainments, thus a good choice for those who want to experience all. We strongly recommend those who have never tried grass skiing to practice this activity after the others, because it is the most exhausting and you may kiss the ground and get pained knees.

Taking the Mountain Chair (fees included in the series ticket), you find yourself on the peak of the resort and the starting point of the Toboggan Run imported from Germany. It is a 1318-meter-long steel track zigzagging through the Nanshan Hill and players take on a special cart and rush down the track. Since the speed of the cart is under your control, you will taste the excitement of traversing the woods freely, and though far from Tarzan, you can imagine yourself as a modern Robin Hood roaming the forest.

Cable Hang-gliding participants also need to take the chair lift. All of us must have seen that from the television and regarded it a way to realize men s dream to fly. However when the writer hanged herself under the gliders and was packed by the big bag and ropes, she rather looked like a big worm instead of a heroine challenging human limits. The staff there described picturesquely how romantic it will be when the lovers are kissing each other in the air with the help of the gliders, so maybe you can take the girl you admire and steal a kiss.
