Asia's First Rodeo Ring Opens in Beijing

2004/05/01

Asia's first American Rodeo ring was open to the public at the end of April in the grounds of The Beijing Wildlife Zoo, situated in suburban Daxing District.

With a total area of 20,000 square metres, and an investment of 200 million yuan, this rodeo can entertain an audience of 6,400. American Rodeo, which focuses on the skills of mounted cowboys, is totally unlike Spanish bull fighting.

On April the 15th, 20 cowboys and cowgirls from Texas arrived in Beijing to demonstrate their skills. One of their signature tricks is to rope a running bull from horseback, dismount and tie the bull in less than 10 seconds.

Each rodeo performance includes many different events over two hours. All of the performers are champions of World Rodeo. Adult-price tickets are 160 yuan.
