Shaolin Warriors: Back In Beijing

2004/05/01

It's kungfu fighting! It's Zen! It's entertainment! Back from their wildly successful US tour, Shaolin Warriors will storm Beijing this May.

In a fully choreographed spectacular that features the original Buddhist monks from the legendary Shaolin Monastery, audiences will be amazed and thrilled by the seemingly-impossible, like cracking metal bars and wooden planks on the monks' foreheads, and wielding two-handed double whips at the speed of sound!

Shaolin Warriors also features a wide variety of kungfu disciplines such as qigong, "animal" boxing, drunken boxing, and fighting with 18 kinds of traditional weapons. And it's all the real deal. Flesh against flesh, steel against steel, body over spirit and mind over matter.

The skills of the monks are anchored in their meditation practices and training. At the Shaolin Monastery, which is considered the original spiritual home of Chinese gongfu (kungfu), the monks seek to bring about a total balance of mind, body and spirit through an intense form of meditation known as Zen. The Shaolin Monks' Zen meditation calms the body and focuses the mind so that the monks are able to endure extraordinary physical punishment and to engage in the intense daily training required to achieve the high degree of skill that is on display.

An extravaganza in every respect, with enchanting scenery, hauntingly beautiful music; channelling the precision of Olympic gymnasts and the grace of ballet dancers, the Shaolin Warriors demonstrate their sacred and dazzling art form in this unique theatrical setting.

Go and judge for yourself how different this show is from Hollywood blockbusters like "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and "Hero".
