Wang Puts Best Foot Forward

2004/04/01

A 28-year-old graphic designer plans to secure an entry into the Guinness Book of World records - by hopping the entire length of the Great Wall of China. Wang Haixin, who originally comes Chengdu in South China's Sichuan Province, said she dreamed about the record attempt the first time she laid eyes on the man-made wonder of the world as a little girl.

"Some people don t take me seriously but I think this is a great challenge for me," said Wang, who says she got the inspiration for her unusual record attempt after watching children at play in a Beijing middle school."I was disappointed when the great astronaut Yang Liwei reported that he couldnt see the Great Wall from space so I thought I would do something to bring the world s attention to it once more," she added."I know I'll get some strange looks along the way but I have been building up the strength of my right leg for the past nine months and I think I can make it."
