Simply The Best: Food, Wine and All That Jazz!2004/04/01
Over the past six years, the Hilton Hotel has become renowned as the home of Beijing's premier annual food and wine festival. The 2003 event attracted over 700 people and featured over 120 companies. In this seventh year celebrating the world s best cuisine and viticulture, the Hiltons management promise the biggest and best ever Food and Wine Experience. The 2004 Beijing Food and Wine Experience VII (which this year has a jazz festival theme) will be held on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th April, and will feature a multitude of delights for food and wine lovers, as well as several signature special events. BTM is pleased to support this wonderful annual event, and can recommend the following standout public events from the full trade and public programme: The Grand Tasting and All That Jazz BuffetSample hundreds of the world s most interesting wines, meet winemakers, owners and merchants, and enjoy a sumptuous jazz-themed buffet while being entertained by Beijing's best jazz combos. Additionally, the finalists of the festival s international wine competition (which this year judges the best Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc available in Beijing for under 200 yuan) will be available for tasting and voting for a Public s Choice Award. (198 yuan to take part In the event) Master class with Chef de Cuisine, Dan SegallKeen gourmands will relish the rare opportunity to join a Louisiana Cajun master class with the Hilton Beijing s brand-new Chef de Cuisine Dan Segall. BTM enjoyed only the second lunch that Chef Segall (lately of New York Citys Canteen) had prepared in his new kitchen, and the result was spectacular. (250 yuan) Louisiana Jazz Dinner with Chef Dan SegallA fine champagne reception followed by a brilliant four-course degustation dinner, designed by Chef Segall with wines selected by the Hilton s Australian wine expert Chris Roberts. The event will include rarely-available live Australian oysters in a Fume Blanc gelee, Cajun-spiced soft-shell crabs, smoked squab and andouille sausage gumbo, Tabasco sorbet, braised short-rib beef with pan-roasted scallions, horseradish grits and sour cherry, and bananas foster with baked chocolate pudding and mascarpone gelato. Matched wines will include a lovely Mondavi 2002 Fume Blanc, the Xanadu Margaret River Semillion 2001, the Torres Mas La Plana Cabernet Sauvignon, the brilliant Banrock Station Sparkling Shiraz NV and the outstanding Wine & Spirits First Prize-winning Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon 1998. This spectacular wine has never before been available in China, and is being formally launched at the Hiltons degustation dinner. Great live jazz music, Columbian espresso, hand-made chocolates and Martell VSOP cognac will make for a memorable evening. (698 yuan) Reservations are highly recommended, as we anticipate a sell-out.
