Letters to the Editor2004/03/01
Dear Editor, I am travelling for around 10 days every 2 months to Beijing. Beijing This Month is truly a good magazine and very useful. I congratulate you. Please attach a 'what is next' page to the very beginning of the magazine for the next month for concerts, art exhibitions, fairs etc. to help readers make better plans. Nejat Dear Nejat, Thank you for your interest and suggestion for our publication. Since our November issue last year, we have reserved two pages as a 'What's On' calendar to inform our readers of key activities for the whole month. Editor
Dear Editor, I found a terrible mistake in your February issue. On page 9, the second piece in the right column, 6th line from bottom in the second paragraph reads "Shenyang, in the northeastern Jilin Province", while I think we all know that Shenyang is the capital of Liaoning Province. Beijing This Month is an official periodical for expats in Beijing and such a mistake will surely misguide them. Even foreigners who know China s geography may laugh at it. Xie Wensheng Dear Wensheng, You are perfectly right. Thank you for drawing this oversight to our attention and our apologies for the mistake. Editor
Dear Editor, I was reading the February issue of your magazine, wondering what to do for Valentines Day, and I saw a marvellous article titled, "Romantic International Fare in Five-Star Luxury", page 62. Needless to say I was very interested in the two packages that were available to me. I decided that the Chang An Grand Hotel was the place to go, so I called the hotel and ordered package two. Now your article states, and I quote, "and the packages both include accommodation in the brand new hotel." Also on page 58 there are more descriptions of the packages in the section titled, "Hotel Bulletin Board", and again I quote, "500 yuan for two persons, including free gifts of two flutes of quality French champagne, a red rose for the lady, and one nights accommodation in a deluxe room." BARGAIN! Or so I thought... According to the lady I spoke to on the phone, package two does not, and never has, included any accommodation in the hotel. So one of two things is happening: 1). Your article is wrong, and hence a major problem for one of this issues key articles; or 2). The hotel is lying, and should not therefore be promoted by any magazine that looks after the expat community. I would very much like to know which one is true! Lee Dear Lee, Thank you for your email. I apologise for the mistake. We received the promotional info for Chang An Grand Hotel on Jan. 14 and the next day was the deadline for our February issue, 5 days earlier than usual because of the Spring Festival. The hotel sent me another email on Jan. 15 to inform of the change that the 500-yuan package would NOT include the one-night stay at the hotel. However by then I had left Beijing and because of Spring Festival arrangements, no one else was available to make the change. We apologize for this unfortunate oversight and thank you for drawing it to our attention. Editor |
