Peek Behind Blue Zoo Scenes With New Galf-day Visit
2003/05/01
Even though around 75 percent of the earth
is covered by water, few people get the chance to
view the oceans's marine life in its natural habitat.
Televised nature films apart, the next best thing in
learning about seas and the countless species that inhabit
them are magnificent specialized venues such as Blue Zoo
Beijing, whose exhibits offer a close-up view of life
beneath the waves -collectively an outstanding microcosm of
all that is marine. |

The Blue Zoo the first five-star aquarium in
Beijing, boasting the longest Acrylic Bond Channel in Asia
"a walk-through transparent tunnel where visitors can see
marine life all around them. The main seawater pool is 47
meters in length, 23.5m in width and 3.5m in depth, with a
total water capacity of 3,400 liters. The water contains
some 120 tons of Israeli sea salt and has a constant
temperature between 23 to 26 degrees. |
Equally perfect in reproducing the marine life- home waters
are seawater filtering and ventilation systems, an advanced
sea-salt compound system, and a full life-support system.
Every bit as educational as spectacular, the zoo is
particularly popular among children. Their natural curiosity
and countless questions keep staff on their toes as they help
the youngsters understand how it all functions. Visitors are
also allowed to swim with the fish, and help an expert feed the
sharks and green turtles.
May 7 will see the launch of a zoo project promoted as
"Half-day Visit to the Blue Zoo" a kind of package tour that
enables visitors to view all possible and participate in such
activities as preparing and sterilizing the fish food,
scientifically examining water quality and the sea-salt
compound, and going backstage to inspect facilities.
