Dumpling Delights from Creative Embassy Officials
2003/03/01
Nearly 100 officials from 18 embassies in Beijing competed
in a Spring Festival dumpling-making contest at Jintai Art
Museum in Chaoyang Park. Their dumplings varied so greatly in
shape that, after a long discussion, the judges agreed that an
additional prize should be added to the original three. Four
delegates, from Columbia, Romania, Ecuador and Belarus, shared
the first prize.
"I' ve never made dumplings before, so I was very excited to
take part in the contest. I decided to make the most pretty
dumplings I could, because I love making pretty things with my
hands, said Colombian Carolina Diaz, who won the prize for the
best looking dumplings.
The museum, which is often used for non-official
international exchange activities, organized the contest as
part of festival celebrations with foreign friends. Museum
director Yuan Xikun said: "It was really good to have so many
embassy officials celebrating the Chinese festival
together.
