Beijing's Freeways Now Approaching Total 500km
2002/12/01
The second and third phases of Beijing's Fifth Ring Road
project are now open to traffic, bringing the city's total
freeway length to 444km. Overall, this year has seen the
completion of 128km of freeways in the city.
Some 60km of the 100-km Fifth Ring Road have been opened to
traffic this year, while about 100km of the 200-km Sixth Ring
Road are also now in use. Beijing's highway network will help
alleviate traffic jams, encourage ecological protection and
provide a much-improved motoring environment in time for the
2008 Beijing Olympics, according to traffic experts.
