Golfers Swing into Charitable Action
2002/10/01
The 200 or so pupils at a remote Hebei Province mountain
school will benefit from the inaugural Tenbridge Consulting
Charity Golf Day at Beijing Country Club, Shunyi, on Friday,
October 25. Wolong Sleeping Dragon Primary School in Shidu,
established by Doreen Huang of UNESCO Beijing (see Beijing This
Month, September 2001), will receive the proceeds of the
tournament. Pupils from impoverished Wolong village qualify for
the school if their parents' per capita income is less than 450
yuan.
A spokeswoman for Tenbridge Consulting, a British financial
advisory company, said: "As part of our commitment to China, we
are actively involved in supporting local charities to help
underprivileged children. We will raise money for the school at
the golf day through sponsorship of holes and an auction of
donated prizes. We are, however, still looking for more
sponsors because we hope to raise about 20,000 yuan to cover
school utilities such as heating, water and other things for a
year."
Tenbridge Consulting chose the Wolong school because it
views education to be the basis for sustainable development.
More information about the school can be obtained from Doreen
