Forty Polluting Factories to be Moved from Capital
2002/10/01
About 40 industrial enterprises emitting heavy pollution are
scheduled to move outside the Fourth Ring Road in urban Beijing
this year, reported Beijing Morning Post. Their relocation will
result in a 5,000-ton reduction in air pollution.
Beijing Municipal Government plans to move 150 other heavy
polluters outside Beijing by 2005. Subsequently, a total of
4.2million square meters of land, previously occupied by these
plants, will now be conserved for other purposes. The city
began moving polluting enterprises outside the city in 1985.
Since the 1995 adoption of regulations authorizing this type of
relocation, a total of 189 plants have been removed.
