Swiss Airline to Name Aircraft After Mountains
2002/08/01
Swiss International Air Lines, now simply called Swiss in
succession to the defunct Swissair, is to name all the aircraft
in its fleet after mountains in Switzerland. The concept is
designed to reflect the strong tradition of "Swissness" which
the new airline is striving to embody. The naming policy will
also help strengthen the new carrier's corporate identity and
design.
Along with watches, cuckoo clocks, multi-purpose pocket
knives and chocolate, the mountain range known as the Alps is
Switzerland's best-known symbol overseas. Thus it is planned
that the aircraft will be named after the principal peaks some
time next year.
