New Exhibition Center Destined for Shunyi
2002/08/01
Beijing's existing China International Exhibition Center
(CIEC) is failing to keep pace with the rapid development of
the city's exhibition industry, resulting in the building by
2006 of a new alternative in Shunyi District.
The biggest exhibition venue in Beijing, CIEC was built in
1985 with a 60,000sq.m indoor area and 7,000sq.m outdoors.
Currently, it needs to stage an exhibition every three days to
keep pace with demand, a speed neither its facilities nor
surrounding environment can sustain. Thus construction of a new
center will begin next year. The new CIEC will occupy an area
of at least of 2.3 million square meters and be invested with
three billion yuan. Planned are 20 single-story exhibition
halls, each with an area of at least 10,000sq.m.
The distance between the future CIEC and Capital Airport
will be 1.5 kilometers, far more convenient to exhibitors and
international buyers and other business visitors than the
current exhibition center.
