Israelis Enjoy Chinese Silk Figurine and Lantern Fair
2002/08/01
A Chinese silk-figurine and lantern fair at a museum in the
Israeli capital of Tel Aviv closed on July 15 after a highly
successful 40-day run, especially among local children who were
taking their summer vacation. For most of the youngsters, this
was their first insight into an aspect of Chinese culture.
Exhibited were some 200 figurines and numerous lanterns, all
of which were made by Beijing Beiyang Artware Corporation.
Featured with illustrations in Hebrew were well-known figures
from China's history. The museum also saw a temple fair on the
opening night of the exhibition, where many of Tel Aviv's
Chinese restaurants promoted traditional snacks. A bonus for
visitors was the provision of exquisite art-wares by domestic
sponsors.
Israeli vice-premier and foreign minister Shimon Peres
delivered an address at the opening of the exhibition.
