Wildlife Park Visitors View Animals from Cages

2002/06/01

Visitors to Beijing Wild Animal Park at Yunfa, Daxing District, are being locked up in specially designed cage-shaped sightseeing buses to ensure their safety from the park's dangerous charges which run largely free in the area. The buses give tourists the close-up view of animals they seek, a complete reversal of the system where it's the animals who live behind bars.

The buses are very close to the animals, enabling passengers to get good close-up photographs without obstruction because the grilles of their cage are large enough for a camera to be poked through. One visitor said he was so close to a lion that he was able to count the number of hairs on the animal's "beard". These caged buses are the first to be used in China.
