Letter from the Editor2002/04/01
Ok,no argument from us about Spring being the time when a young man's fancy turns lightly to thoughts of love. Poets have to eat too, and young men are going to do their thing anyway, poetic urging or not. For most people, the arrival of blossoms on the bough, flowering gardens and greening all around provides a big enough lifting of the spirits in itself--a renewal of optimism about their life and future, if you like. Which is why we at BTM see Spring as one of nature's better inventions, and why this month we provide you with plenty of suggestions and details on how you can get the best out of it before Summer brings a blow-torth to your energy and lifestyle. Our giving so much space to Spring means that various other harder-edged and entertaining features have had to be held over until our May issue. We are always reluctant to do this because we try to consistently present you with a reasonably balanced cross-section of articles that satisfy the larger interest groups. This said, we are confident you will both understand and stay with us. One profile that simply could not be held in abeyance is the painful story of a very brave young man currently suffering from the HIV virus--a sad fact that has brought out the best human instincts in others. The tale will, we are sure, move you as it moved us. Also in this month's palette are a round-up of the widely popular annual "Meet In Bejing" Arts Festival, a feast of performances from all over the world; other entertainment news; some super new fashions; dining and news updates; and a whole lot more. Happy reading! Li Mingxia Deputy Editor-in-Chief |
