Restaurants Get Chop for Dongzhimen Widening

More than 20 restaurants lining Dongzhimennei Street are being demolished under a reconstruction project that will enable the widening of the street to 60 meters from its present 15 meters. Work is expected to be completed at the end of this year.

The restaurants' owners wasted no time in promoting special meals for nostalgic customers, many of whom took the opportunity of saying farewell the best way they knew how--by tucking into a good meal that brought back memories. Even so, many were sad that their favorite eating places had to go.

When the street is widened and some buildings reconstructed, it will become a 24-hour modernized restaurant street.
