One-day Tours of Modern Econnmic Sites
2002/04/01
To promote the ongoing achievements of Beijing's economic
devel-opment and the country's opening up, new routes for
one-day tours of the city for tourists and other visitors are
now available. This new approach to local tourism, in the past
largely confined to historic and cultural sites, has brought a
colorful new dimension to education about Beijing.
The new routes focus on sectors such as technology,
environmental protection and modern industry and agriculture,
examples being the Beijing Economic-Technological Development
Area at Yizhuang; Capital Iron and Steel Company; the
Air-Quality Observation Center of the Environmental Protection
Bureau; Wangfujing Pedestrian Street; Gaobeidian Waste Water
Plant; Beijing Transportation Bureau; and the China Science and
Technology Museum.
Tourism officials are pleased at response to this new-look
form of tourism, which throws new light on what makes Beijing
tick. Numerous groups, including those made up of local senior
and middle-aged citizens as well as individual foreign
tourists, have enjoyed the tours. And on International Women's
Day, numerous corporations booked places on the tours as gifts
for female employees.
