Capital's Foreign-student Ranks Swell by 30,000

According to an Education Department survey, Beijing currently hosts about 30,000 overseas students. Last year alone, the city's colleges and universities enrolled thousands of new students from overseas. During the same year, some 6,000 Chinese applied to study abroad.

The large intake of foreign students is said by the department to reflect the fact that Beijing is becoming more attractive as an international city. More and more foreigners want to know more about China and its capital, and are keen to gain a better understanding of Chinese culture and language.
