City's Highways Network Links All Major Areas
2002/03/01
This year will see Beijing connect seven roads with the
subway system to create a loop of highways. Also to be built
are 100km of suburban highways. Combined, the roads will
provide a comprehensive network that links virtually every main
area of the city.
Last year alone saw great progress in the capital's highway
system. Spurred by this success, planners and builders are
increasing their efforts this year. Several highways will be
completed by the end of 2002, including the Sixth Ring Road
(38.7km); the second phase of the Fifth Ring Road (22.85km);
the third phase of the Fifth Ring Road (23.98km); and Yingcheng
Road. Funds for all the projects are have been approved.
