New Regulation Hammers Curio-Market Counterfeits
2002/01/01
Beijing's cultural relics protection authorities are
applying a new regulation that orders shops to affix a tag
saying "New product" on all replicated antiques. Shops failing
to do so will be publicly identified, and the offending
products will be barred from sale.
The city's 14 official curio markets stock large quantities
of counterfeit items which some sell as "genuine antiques".
Often the quality is so high that they fool experts as well as
ordinary tourists.
