WTO Promise of Cheaper Overseas Fruits
2002/01/01
People will find fruits from overseas much cheaper after
March this year because of China's entry to the World Trade
Organization (WTO), predict representatives of the United
States' Florida Oranges Association.
In line with new tariff standards, import duties and
added-value taxes for imported agricultural products will be
lowered from the current 52.5 percent to 15-20 percent
savings that should be passed on to customers.
It is estimated that the amount of overseas fruits on the
Chinese market will increase considerably.
