Foreigners Tackle HSK Chinese Language Test

The HSK Chinese-language test (widely known as the "Chinese
TOFEL" was last month held at 22 examination centers in 16
Chinese cities. In Beijing alone, more than 3,100 foreigners
took the test at Beijing Language and Culture University.
HSK is the prime test of foreigners� competence in Chinese,
a major key to their working or studying in the country. Now
that growing numbers of foreigners are coming to China, HSK is
set to become compulsory in universities and some
companies.
At present there is a total of 24 examination centers in 24
counties. Over the years, about 80,000 foreigners -90 percent
of them students-have taken the test.
