Letter from the Editor2001/04/01
April of course is the month when magazines and newspapers play their little April Fool's Day jokes on readers with spoof stories and wild-goose chases that often make people feel they are the victims of Sixth Form jolly japes. No such idiocies by Beijing This Month-we have far too much respect for the intelligence of you, our readers, and would not wish to embarrass you. Or would we ..? Read on, and you may or may not believe some of the wel-researched features and items we this month present to you. In recent months we have given depth coverage to Beijing's 2008 Olympics bid., Now it's time to move away from conventional track and field, and give a long-awaited airing to what are known as Extreme Sports and the younger piople who indulge in them. Our roundup starts on page 8. Meanwhile Spring is now well and truly sprung, and we present various ways you can enjoy these blossomy days the more. Also for your pleasure is a charming photographic essay on Beijing's four contrasting seasons. Numerous other fetures include a profile of superb "Olympics" artist Charles Billich, whose most recent work is the stunning Beijing Millennium Cityscape, sponsored by the Australian capital in support of Beijing's 2008 Olympics bid. Billich, an artist supreme and something of a philosopher, is the kind of "original" who, we are sure, you like to read about. Please enjoy, and any youu Easter Egg contain more than air!
