Winter Palette
2001/03/01
It's not often you hear the command "Stop the press!" in
magazine circles.Such a weighty and expensive decision is
usually reserved for daily newspapers whose production cycles
are dictated by the clock. The presses are only held up in face
of some really hot exclusive news.
But this literally happened to Beijing This Month as we
were about to "go to bed" as we call it. The reason: winter's
sudden, final flourish of snow, which within afew hours
blanketed every corner of Beijing to produce such a crisp,
beautiful wonderland that we got our top photographers straight
out onto the streets to record the scenes.
Photographs such as winterscapes should be poetry in picture
form, and we hope you agree that our cameramen -- Wang
Huiming, Zhao Dechun and Su Guanming -- excelled themselves
in recording nature's icing on the Beijing cake.
