Spring Festival Boosts Tourism Revenues
2001/03/01
Figures from the State Tourism Administration (STA) show
that the industry received a massive 19.8 billion yuan boost
during the Spring Festival, reports Beijing Economic
Daily. The revenues were generated by almost 45 million
tourists who traveled in China during the festival.
STA deputy director Zhang Xiqian said that progress in both
domestic and abroad travel had been achieved, especially in
long-distance domestic journeys, which showed growth of 20-30
percent against the same festival of last year.
In the past, tourism "consumption" was concentrated on
transportation and lodgings, but this year saw tourists, with
more money in their pocket, willing to spend their money on
higher-quality lodgings.
