Sixty Major Projects on Beijing's 2001 Drawing Board
2001/03/01
Infrastructural, construction and environmental-protection
projects take priority in this year's Beijing plans, all of
which will help the city function better than in the past,
according to a Beijing Youth Daily report.
The infrastructural projects include construction of a
subway, the Capital Museum, the western area of Zhongguancun,
and a highway between Beijing and Miyun. Particular priority
will be given to projects that speed up information
communications for a "digitalized" Beijing.
Environmental projects will include measures that further
improve local air quality, widen the use of natural gas while
reducing the usage of coal, and the creation of more greenbelts
around the city.
