Parents Spending More on Children's Education
2001/03/01
A survey of Beijingers' living conditions shows that average
per-capita investment in education last year was an average of
1,203.37 yuan, an expense second only to food, according to
Beijing Morning Post.
More and more people, it reported, realized the importance
of improving one's educational level in the rapidly developing
city. The survey showed that parents invest an average 15
percent of their income in their children's education.
Experts noted that the rise in college enrolment, and
consequent tuition fees, are also stimulants to consumers. For
example, computer sales in Beijing were last year 32 percent
higher than in 1999.
