The 2000 China International Fashion Week
2001/01/01
By Ren Guangping
Twenty-five top Chinese fashion houses, and six foreign
designers, showcased their latest creations at the mid-December
2000 China International Fashion Week. The event was a dazzling
get-together of design talent, with no less than 30 fashion
shows to keep critics and buyers at full stretch. Word is that
many manufacturers received much larger orders than expected,
though amounts have yet to be released.
Best Designer and Model contests were also staged. As one
exhausted fashion writer admitted: "I ran out of adjectives
halfway through the week! But for me it was the best fashion
event ever promoted in Beijing. Chinese designs are really
coming on strongly, and production quality is much better these
days. It has to be, because competition from overseas is
intense."
Many of the fashionshows were the 2001 spring/summer
collections of top Chinese houses such as Mark Zhang, BOTAO,
Tian Art and MARY MA. Italian designer Enrica Mecchia; French
designers Jerome I'Huillier, Eric Bergere and Daniel Faret; and
Singapore's Alfie Leong Wai Choog were among those who showed
their newest designs.
