EU Human Rights Micro-Projects Programme: To Support Small-scale Human Rights Projects in China2005/04/20
The aim of the Human Rights Micro-Projects Programme is to provide financial support to non-profit-making and non-governmental organisations or higher education institutes, which contribute to the promotion of respect for human rights, the encouragement of the continuing growth of civil society and the strengthening of the rule of law. Two Calls for Proposals have been launched since 2001, resulting in 21 projects being funded. A third Call for Proposals was officially launched on April 5, 2005, with a budget of 435,000 euros. The funds will be managed locally by the European Commission Delegation to China and Mongolia. Proposals for projects in the following priority areas are welcomed:
Applicants must be legal persons and, either non-profit making or non-governmental organisations or higher education institutions with their headquarters in the People's Republic of China (excluding the Hong Kong and Macao SARs). The total duration of a project may not exceed 12 months. The funding available for any one project is between 10,000 euros (minimum amount) and 100,000 euros (maximum amount). The deadline for applications is 4 p.m., June 14, 2005, Beijing Time. A briefing session for potential applicants will be held in Beijing on April 26, 2005. The purpose of the briefing is to explain procedures and requirements of preparing an application. A representative from each applicant organisation is welcome to attend the session but registration is required.
